GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

Geothermal resources, natural mineral waters and gases of geothermal origin in our country are within the scope of Law no. 5686 on "Geothermal Resources and Natural Mineral Waters".
Under this law, Exploration and Operating licenses are required to be a beneficiary and to operate.
Each license application prepared in accordance with specified formats is submitted to the License and Audit Directorate of the Governorate if the relevant geothermal resource is located within the boundaries of a Metropolitan province or to the Special Provincial Administration if it is elsewhere.
Each license is issued for a maximum of 5000 hectares.
According to the law, no survey/exploration is allowed without a license.
For effective and efficient use of geothermal resources and natural mineral waters, İlbank Inc. provides the shareholding administrations with all kinds of engineering, consultancy and financial support with surveys, project designs, and construction regarding geothermal resources and natural mineral waters.
Upon the request of shareholding administrations, our Bank

  • conducts Geothermal Resource and Natural Mineral Water surveys;
  • designs well projects;
  • drills wells;
  • conducts tests and measurement in wells;
  • evaluate production and reinjection for wells and geothermal reservoirs;
  • improves, develops and monitor existing systems and wells
  • prepares feasibility studies, and,
  • provides financing support..

Furthermore, the Bank also works on and provides financial and technical support for surveys, feasibility studies, project designs and construction about "Ground-Source Heat Pumps" and "Water-Source Heat Pumps" defined as "Shallow Geothermal Resources", which are not yet widely used in our country, but make up half of the geothermal energy usage in the world.

What is Geothermal Energy?
Geothermal energy is a kind of heat energy. This heat energy is conveyed from underground to the earth by means of water, steam and gases.
Water, steam and gases cannot be kept for a long time and cannot be stored in high amounts without losing the heat energy loaded on them.
Most importantly, water, steam and gases loaded with geothermal energy cannot be transported to long distances.
You do not have an option to transport and store water, steam or gas produced from other sites or reservoirs so as to use any amount thereof, unlike other types of energy.
Due to these features, geothermal energy can be utilized onsite as much as it can be produced from the site or reservoir.

For a geothermal resource-based investment, the following should be known: how much energy is in the geothermal field, reservoir and wells, how much energy is available and how much water, steam and gas can be produced; and productivity of wells and their temperatures, pressures, and physical-chemical contents.
The main purpose is to determine RENEWABLE and SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION FIGURES.
Sustainability is defined as the ability to economically keep the installed capacity in production during the payback period of the facility;
Whereas, renewability is defined as being able to sustain this capacity forever without exploiting the resource.
As a universal principle, "Sustainability" requires the "Renewability" feature to be "Sustainable" in the operation of geothermal resources, and it is a term that defines the behavior of those who operate it, not the resource.
