BIOGAS

BIOGAS

The term biogas mainly refers to the production of a usable gas from organic wastes. In other words, it is the conversion of organic matter into carbon dioxide and methane gas under the influence of microbiological flora in an anaerobic environment.
The materials used for biogas production can be examined under three headings as animal manures, organic wastes and industrial wastes. The materials used in this context are as follows:

  • animal wastes, wastes from animal husbandry, animal manures,
  • vegetable wastes, garden wastes, food wastes,
  • industrial wastes,
  • agricultural wastes, wastes from forest industry,
  • wastes from leather and textile industry,
  • wastes from paper industry, food industry wastes,
  • wastes from vegetable, grain, fruit and oil industry, and wastes from sugar industry,
  • domestic solid wastes, and
  • wastes from wastewater treatment plants.

After biogas production, wastes do not disappear; they even become much more valuable. The remaining waste after anaerobic fermentation is used as an organic fertilizer.
